How Is Everything Connected Together?

  1. Your wireless router's power supply cord.
  2. Your wireless router (Netgear Nighthawk example provided here).
  3. The Internet antenna outside on the roof, a pole, etc. (There are several different types of Internet antenna models and the one you have may not look like the one in this sample diagram).
  4. Power supply for the Internet antenna. Typically, an outdoor-rated black CAT5e ethernet cable (not a coax cable) is run from the Internet antenna to the "POE port" on the power supply inside. POE stands for "power over ethernet." The Internet antenna is powered via low-voltage electricity from this power supply.

Typically, a yellow ethernet cable is provided which goes from the "LAN port" on the power supply to the Internet port on your wireless router.

NOTE: the power supply may be black or white and has a light in the middle (blue, green or white light).
  5. Building power. A wall outlet or power strip.

NOTE: Our Internet does NOT use a modem. A modem is a device that converts an analog signal to a digital one. Our Internet signal is already digital and therefore does not require a modem.
